Bright / Modern is a sustainable, healthy, and accessible home with attached ADU in Bellingham, WA. This custom home was designed to support our client through life and future healthcare needs with a flexible space that empowers her to age gracefully. While the upper level is the homeowner’s paradise, the lower level features an attached ADU for rental income. In the future, it can become a place for in-home health care, or serve as the primary owners unit and the upper floor can become a rental unit. The home is built into the hillside terrain so that both units could be accessible.

The ultra-modern home offers views of the dramatic skyline of the Puget Sound, while its orientation and design features promote passive heating and cooling. Abundant open living and balcony space is provided for entertaining, while private spaces feature warm touches like a 2-way fireplace in the bedroom and a spa and steam room in the bathroom, Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and clerestory windows brighten this woodsy home, while careful attention was given to the layout for privacy from neighbors.
