Sarah Vaccaro

Principal / Architect / Director of Equitable Communities (she/her)

Sarah Vaccaro, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, is Principal of Architects FORA. Her career has included a variety of project types from educational buildings to a children's museum and zoo. After practicing architecture in the Bay Area for over a decade, Sarah joined OJK Architecture + Planning. In 2021, Jerry King entrusted his firm of 40 years to Sarah, Leah, and Kate to continue designing beautiful, resilient, and affordable housing in partnership with their long-standing non-profit housing developer clients. Today, Architects FORA (previously OJK Architecture + Planning) is focused on creating equitable housing that empowers our communities.

Sarah is a California licensed architect and LEED-accredited professional with a passion for the design process and creatively collaborating with clients to best serve the end-users. She strongly believes that architecture has the power and responsibility to improve lives through purposefully designed spaces and by affecting positive social change in the broader community. She respects the responsibility of designing places individuals will call home and is deeply committed to FORA’s collaborative approach and restorative process.

In her free time, you might find Sarah hanging out in one of the epic forts she enjoys making with her children and husband. They also enjoy playing games, making art and going on adventures! For relaxation, Sarah enjoys going on hikes, solo or with friends, quiet time, reading, and doing yoga.

"Architecture is never neutral. It either heals or hurts. Our mission is to research, build and advocate for architecture that promotes justice and dignity."

/ FAVORITE PROJECT

“1585 Studios in Mountain View: I live just down the street from this project and it caught my eye whenever I passed by. The simply clarity and balance of the front elevation with bright red siding and cedar slat enclosure around the stair. When I found out it was affordable housing for developmental disabled adults empowering them to live independently in this supportive environment, I looked up the firm who designed it and started pounding on their door for a job… The rest is history!”

I love working with the creative, interesting, passionate people that we partner with. I love that the product of our work are spaces that people call home, find safety and healing within, and enjoy with their community.
